Few places reward a room with a view like Kazbegi. Wake up to the Gergeti Trinity Church perched on its hill and the snow-capped cone of Mount Kazbek behind it, and you'll understand why this Georgian mountain town has become a bucket-list base. Here's where to stay to get that view.

Quick picks

- **For the iconic view:** hotels & guesthouses facing Gergeti/Kazbek.
- **Town:** Stepantsminda — base for hikes & transport.
- **Prices:** guesthouses from ~$25; design hotels far more.

## Stepantsminda — the town

“Kazbegi” and “Stepantsminda” refer to the same place — the small town at the foot of the mountains, about three hours from Tbilisi along the Georgian Military Highway. It’s the hub for hikes up to Gergeti, day trips and onward transport, and where most guesthouses cluster. Family-run guesthouses here are warm, cheap and serve hearty Georgian breakfasts.

## Rooms with the view

The famous shot — church, mountain, valley — is best enjoyed from your bed. **Rooms Hotel Kazbegi**, a design hotel with a wall of glass facing the peak, is the landmark address; many guesthouses on the Gergeti-facing side of town offer the same panorama for a fraction of the price.

**Book the view, not just the hotel:** ask explicitly for a room facing Gergeti Trinity Church / Mount Kazbek — it's the whole reason to stay here, and not every room has it.

## When to go

Summer (June–September) brings green valleys, wildflowers and the best hiking; winter is dramatic and snowy but cold, with some road closures on the mountain highway. Spring and autumn are quieter and cheaper.

## Kazbegi FAQ

### Is Kazbegi the same as Stepantsminda?

Yes — Stepantsminda is the town’s official name; Kazbegi is the older, widely-used name (and the district).

### How long should you stay?

Two nights lets you hike to Gergeti Trinity Church, enjoy the views and not rush the long drive from Tbilisi.
