1. Booking on the first site you check
Prices for the same room vary across platforms. Booking without comparing leaves money on the table — a comparison search is the easy fix.
2. Ignoring the neighbourhood
The hotel can be perfect and the area wrong. Research where to stay (nightlife vs quiet, beach vs town) before picking a property — it’s the decision that most affects your trip.
3. Not reading recent reviews
A great average score can hide a recent slide. Sort reviews by newest, look for repeated complaints, and filter by your traveller type.
4. Comparing headline rates, not totals
Taxes, city and “resort fees” can turn a cheaper-looking room into the dearer one. Always compare the final, all-in price.
5. Booking non-refundable too early
Non-refundable rates save a little but lock you in. A free-cancellation rate lets you rebook if the price drops or plans change — often worth the small premium.
6. Overlooking the tide, the wind or the view orientation
