Where to stay in Amed, Bali: best dive & beach hotels

Amed isn't one village but a string of black-sand bays along Bali's quiet north-east coast, under the shadow of Mount Agung. It's where Bali slows right down — no clubs, just diving, snorkelling, jukung fishing boats and spectacular sunrises. Where you stay comes down to which bay suits you.

Quick picks

  • Best for snorkelling/diving hub: Jemeluk Bay.
  • Best for calm & sunsets over Agung: Lipah & Bunutan.
  • Prices: homestays from ~$15, dive resorts ~$40–90.

The bays, west to east

Amed village & Jemeluk — the liveliest stretch, with the most restaurants, dive shops and the popular Jemeluk reef and underwater “gallery”. Best if you want everything walkable and easy diving.

Lipah & Bunutan — quieter coves a little further along, with boutique dive resorts, calmer water and dreamy views of Mount Agung. Best for a relaxed, scenic base.

Further east (Aas, Banyuning) — the famous Japanese wreck and pristine reefs, very quiet, mostly small resorts.

Tip: Amed is spread out along a winding coast road. Decide whether you want walkable restaurants (Jemeluk) or quiet seclusion (Lipah/Bunutan) — and rent a scooter to explore the rest.

Diving & snorkelling

Amed is one of Bali’s top dive bases: the USAT Liberty wreck at nearby Tulamben, the Jemeluk drop-off and easy shore snorkelling straight off the beach. Many hotels are dive resorts with on-site centres — handy if diving is your main reason to come.

When to visit

The dry season (April–October) has the best visibility and calmest seas. Amed is far drier than southern Bali year-round.

Amed FAQ

Is Amed good for non-divers?

Yes — the snorkelling is excellent straight off the beach, and the laid-back, scenic vibe suits anyone wanting a quiet Bali.

Which bay should I stay in?

Jemeluk for walkable dining and diving; Lipah or Bunutan for quiet and the best Agung views.
